"Beautiful village within fortified walls. Be aware it is at altitude and hence can be a lot colder than the coast. The day we visited a bitter wind blew dropping the temperature more. Dress accordingly and a must visit place."

Exploring the Historic Walls
These walls are not just a historical relic; they are an integral part of Morella's identity and charm. The various towers, such as the Torre de Sant Miquel and the Torre del Rei, served as watchpoints and defensive strongholds. Exploring them offers a glimpse into the architectural prowess of the era. The experience of traversing these ancient ramparts, with the wind in your hair and the vast landscape stretching out before you, is truly immersive. It’s a chance to connect with the past in a tangible way, making it a highlight for any visitor.
The Majesty of Morella Castle
As you wander through the castle grounds, you can almost hear the echoes of history. Imagine knights patrolling the battlements and royalty residing within its walls. The architecture itself tells a story, with elements from different periods of its occupation. The views from the castle are arguably the most spectacular in Morella, encompassing the entire walled town and the rolling hills beyond. It's a prime spot for photography, especially during sunrise or sunset when the light casts a magical glow over the landscape.
Navigating Morella's Steep Terrain
For those who embrace the challenge, the reward is immense. The steepness creates stunning visual perspectives and a sense of discovery as you ascend. It also means that many of the best viewpoints are found at higher elevations, including the castle and sections of the city walls. If you're concerned about the climb, consider taking your time, utilizing benches for rests, and focusing on exploring specific areas rather than trying to see everything at once. The altitude also contributes to a cooler climate, so packing layers is a wise precaution.
