"This is a peaceful and scenic natural park located just outside Málaga. The walking trails are flat and well-maintained, making it perfect for all ages and fitness levels. Birdwatching is a highlight—bring binoculars to spot flamingos, herons, and other wildlife. The sound of planes from the nearby airport is noticeable but doesn’t spoil the experience. There’s no official parking, so you’ll need to find a spot nearby and cross the pedestrian bridge to enter. Great for a quiet afternoon walk, photography, or simply escaping the city."

"Beautiful place, the first 2 observatory are great with so many birds to see! We saw flamingos, hoopoe, stilt, marbled ducks, white headed duck and loads more new species as someone visiting from England. Free to enter which is great, and lots of friendly local birdwatchers too! (Definitely take lots of water as not much shade, even in the hides)."

"Tourists should avoid it and people should stop recommending it to tourists as a hiking trail. Very difficult to get to it. Can turn into huge waste of time as you realize that the map doesn't show any workable routes and a lot of the routes on the map are closed off with chained and locked fences."

A Haven for Birdwatchers
To maximize your birdwatching experience, bring a good pair of binoculars and a field guide. Early mornings and late afternoons are typically the most active times for birds. Keep an eye on local birding forums or social media groups for recent sightings, as this can help you target specific species during your visit. Remember to be quiet and respectful of the environment to ensure the birds remain undisturbed.
While the park is free to access, remember that it's a protected natural area. Stick to designated paths and avoid feeding the wildlife. The proximity to the airport means you might hear planes, but many visitors find it doesn't detract significantly from the natural experience.
Exploring the Trails and Landscape
Beyond the main walkway, other paths wind through the reserve, offering different perspectives of the wetlands and coastal areas. These trails are popular for running and cycling, providing a peaceful escape from the urban bustle of Malaga. While the trails are generally easy, it's important to be prepared. Shade is scarce, so sun protection and ample water are essential, especially during the warmer months. Some visitors have noted that certain routes on maps might be closed or inaccessible, so it's best to stick to the clearly marked and maintained paths.
