Reviews Summary

Naranjo de Bulnes and its surrounding Picos de Europa region are lauded for their spectacular, dramatic mountain scenery and challenging climbing routes. Visitors are captivated by the unique, car-free village of Bulnes and the rewarding hikes to mountain refuges. Some find the commitment and 'run-out' nature of the climbs daunting, while others appreciate the raw, untamed beauty.

"I’ve been climbing for 43 years and find it incredible that I’ve never heard of this awesome tower. The people of the region have kept it a secret andsafe from foreigners and sport climbers by keeping the hike and trad climbs run-out and committing. Everyone who walks to the Refugio at the base of the mountain is in good shape. From the Colláu Pandébanu it is about 800m of elevation and another 500m to the base of the easiest route up it. Some camp here as there is water and privacy. The Refugio sells coffee and hot meals. What a spectacular place."

"A really stunning route, you can see the ocean in the middle of the mountains"

Oscar Jurado

"Spectacular! You have to go to Refugio Vega de Urriellu and see it on your own. From the neighbourhood of Sotres it takes 3-4 hours to get there. Trip to this mountain and back can be done within one day. I saw people climbing this mountain, which must be very difficult."
