What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Outariz Footbridge as a vital link to Ourense's popular thermal baths and for its scenic Miño River views. While it offers convenient access and is part of a beautiful trail, some reviewers note that the walkway itself could benefit from better maintenance and cleanliness.
"Many people use this pedestrian walkway to reach the thermal areas of Outariz and Canedo, as it connects the hot springs with the parking lot on the other side of the river. I recommend that tourists, if they have time and desire to walk, take the circular thermal trail that departs from the Milenio Bridge, following the right bank of the Miño River, passing through the thermal areas. Halfway along, we'll reach this walkway and return along the other bank. The views are beautiful throughout the entire route, especially from here.
Two tips: if you don't want to walk the 11 km route, you can take a tourist train that departs from the Plaza Mayor and stops at the various hot springs, with the last stop being next to the walkway (it also costs the same as the city bus, I think less than €1).
And if we decide to walk, although it is a green area, there are parts of the path where shade is scarce... keep this in mind for summer days (and in Ourense it can get very, very hot...)"

Exploring Ourense's Thermal Waters
Beyond just accessing the baths, the footbridge is part of a larger network of riverside paths. Many visitors recommend taking the circular thermal trail that departs from the Milenio Bridge. This approximately 11km route follows the right bank of the Miño River, passes through the thermal zones, and utilizes the Outariz Footbridge for its return journey along the other bank. This offers a comprehensive way to experience the natural beauty and the thermal culture of Ourense.
While the natural setting is a significant appeal, it's worth noting that some visitors have commented on the maintenance of the walkway, mentioning it can be dirty and marked with graffiti. Despite this, the impressive views and the strategic location for accessing the thermal baths and enjoying the riverside scenery remain strong positives.
Navigating the Thermal Trail and Transport
If an 11km walk seems daunting, or if you're visiting during the hotter months, there are alternative transport options. A tourist train operates from Plaza Mayor and makes stops at various hot springs, including one conveniently located next to the footbridge. This train is an affordable option, often costing similar to or less than the city bus, making it an accessible way to explore the thermal circuit without extensive walking.
It's important to be mindful of the weather, especially during summer. Ourense can experience very high temperatures, and while the riverside path is scenic, some sections offer little shade. Planning your walk for cooler parts of the day or utilizing the tourist train can help ensure a more comfortable experience.
