What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Playa de Langre's stunning cliff-backed beaches, calling it one of the best near Santander. While the surfing conditions are praised for beginners and intermediates, some note potential access issues to smaller sections and limited parking for campervans. The natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere, especially outside peak season, are major highlights.
"Best beach near Santander. We’ll be back here many times."
Max Brevini
"Lovely site. Huge cliffs with 2 beaches down below. The staircase to the smaller beach was wrecked and entrance closed (Oct. 2021). The area seems in full development and soon will likely have moved on from rural to suburban development aimed at attracting tourists (surfers). The small parking at the end of the access road doesn't allow campervans to stay for the night. A CCTV camera is mounted on a light pole."
P.I. Hublou
"Amazing beach! Surrounded by the beautiful cliff, it looks great in the sunny weather. We‘ve been here in the beginning of October and there were not that many people. Good surfing for beginners and intermediate level. Head to the western part of the beach to enjoy the calmer waters or stay in the middle of the beach for higher waves 🏄🏻♀️🤙🏼"

Navigating the Cliffs and Beaches
The secluded nature of Playa de Langre is a major draw, offering a more tranquil experience compared to busier tourist spots. The surrounding cliffs not only add to the visual appeal but also contribute to the feeling of being in a special, natural environment. The development in the area suggests a growing focus on tourism, particularly for surfers, so while it retains its rural charm, changes are anticipated.
For those planning a visit, understanding the accessibility is key. The staircase descent is a significant feature, and while rewarding, it requires a moderate level of fitness. Always be mindful of the weather and sea conditions, especially when navigating the steps and the beach itself. The unique geological features of the cliffs are a photographer's dream, offering varied perspectives throughout the day.
Surfing and Wave Conditions
Conversely, if you're looking for more challenging waves, the middle section of the beach is where you'll find them. This variety makes Playa de Langre a versatile destination for surfers of different skill levels. The surf schools that are developing in the area cater to this demand, providing lessons and equipment rental for those wanting to try their hand at catching a wave.
When planning your surf session, it's always a good idea to check the local wave forecasts and tide times. The conditions can change rapidly, and understanding these factors will help you make the most of your time in the water. The beauty of surfing here is enhanced by the stunning cliff backdrop, making for a memorable experience.
