What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Playa de las Delicias is a popular urban beach known for its lively atmosphere and stunning sunset views. However, visitors should be aware of its unique rocky, dusty sand and the water's rapid deepening, making it less ideal for very young children. The lack of facilities and occasional concerns about watercraft safety are also points to consider.
"Sand is more like small rocks combined with dust, if you expect fine sand, this beach is not for you. Water becomes deep very quick, not good for small children. On the good side there are nice views and you get a nice sunset if you go late afternoon."

"Nice, clean beach. No showers or toilets, though."

"A cult beach for triathletes transformed into a dangerous place due to the lack of respect of the basic rules. In the middle of kids and swimmers the unskilled windsurfers can do whatever they want. We reported the misconduct behaviour of the local windsurf instructor to 4 life guards, who were able to see everything but omitted to force the instructor and his clients to go out of the protected area. They told us to report the situation to the police station. The police officer told us that they (life guards/ salvamento) had to expel the instructor, who is most likely a friend of the life guards. So please pay attention to the presence of windsurfers / jet-skis within the areas bounded by buoys. The life guards in this beach won’t stop them, unless they kill someone."

Understanding the Beach Terrain
Beyond the sand, the water's depth is a significant factor. The shoreline at Playa de las Delicias drops off quickly, becoming deep relatively close to the edge. This characteristic makes it less suitable for very young children who may not be strong swimmers or comfortable in deeper water. Parents should exercise extra caution and supervision if bringing toddlers to this beach.
Despite these considerations, the beach offers a vibrant urban atmosphere. The presence of a boardwalk adds to the experience, providing a place for strolls and people-watching. It's a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, contributing to its lively character.
Navigating Water Safety and Activities
Compounding these concerns is the perceived effectiveness of lifeguard intervention. Some reviews suggest that lifeguards may not always enforce safety rules strictly, leading to frustration among beachgoers who witness misconduct. It's crucial for visitors to remain aware of their surroundings and to be cautious, especially when children are present. If you observe unsafe practices, reporting them to the authorities might be necessary, though immediate intervention from lifeguards may not always be guaranteed.
Despite these safety notes, the beach is a known hub for triathletes and other water sports enthusiasts. This can add to the dynamic energy of the location, but also underscores the importance of respecting designated zones and being mindful of all water users. Visitors seeking a tranquil experience might prefer to visit during off-peak hours.
