It is made of shredded lava, wood and covered with concrete. Its curves are reminiscent of the Atlantic waves that can be seen a few meters away. Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Lago Martiánez for its stunning ocean views, unique saltwater pools, and affordable entry price, making it a must-visit in Puerto de la Cruz. While some note rocky edges and occasional staff unfriendliness, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, offering a great day out for families and individuals alike.

"Brilliant day spent here with three children aged 3, 7 and 8. Great selection of salt water pools for all ages. Beautiful ocean views allowing safe views of the ebb and flow. €7 per adult (August 2025) and under 11 free, €3 umbrella that you do need for shade. Open from 10am til 6pm and gets busy but still plenty of beds. Some pools have outside shower areas. On site bar and restaurants, only place you can smoke/vape is at the bar. Seemed to be a favourite for the locals. Several food/drinks sellers but be prepared to queue. We arrived for the opening and left at five with tired but happy children. Clean manned toilets with ample facilities. Not supposed to take your own food or drink but discretion is the way forward."

"Great fun. €7 entry for full day, bar & food available. Salt water pool. Lovely & clean place with plenty of sun loungers. Quite busy but plenty of place to swim and friendly vibes. However expect umbrellas to be taken already. It is very deep in certain areas and rocky edges to get in and out so you must be careful during your time there. Not many lifeguards seen however they were blowing whistles at those jumping off rocks so were clearly present and aware."

Poppy Pember

"Wonderful views!! Entry is 7 euros for a day and umbrella is an additional 3 euros. The swimming pools are clean and enjoyable, the views are simply amazing and the sound + sight of ocean waves outside the pools makes it a unique experience! We spend half a day here but I think one full day would also be enjoyable!! Many options for eating and also clean dressing rooms and toilets. Only thing I didn’t like is that the staff was a bit unfriendly and started closing up the pools way before the actual closing time (6pm)"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Vision of César Manrique

Lago Martiánez is more than just a swimming pool complex; it's a significant work of art designed by the renowned Canarian artist and architect, César Manrique. His philosophy was to integrate art and nature harmoniously, and this is evident throughout the site. Manrique aimed to create spaces that celebrated the unique volcanic landscape of Tenerife while providing areas for leisure and relaxation. The design features volcanic rock formations, lush gardens, and interconnected saltwater pools that mimic natural lagoons. Instagram+1

The complex was developed in collaboration with architect Jesús Soto and engineer Enrique Sánchez. It was conceived as a way to revitalize the coastline of Puerto de la Cruz and offer a unique recreational experience. The use of natural seawater, pumped directly from the ocean, further enhances the connection to the environment. Visitors often remark on the striking visual appeal and the way the complex feels like a natural extension of the coastline. Instagram+1

Manrique's influence is palpable in the organic shapes, the careful selection of materials, and the overall aesthetic that feels both modern and deeply rooted in the island's identity. It's a place where art, architecture, and the power of the ocean converge, offering a truly memorable experience for all who visit. Instagram

A Day at the Saltwater Pools

Spending a day at Lago Martiánez is a popular choice for both locals and tourists seeking a refreshing escape. The complex boasts seven distinct saltwater pools, each offering a slightly different experience. From expansive main pools perfect for swimming laps to shallower areas ideal for children, there's a space for everyone. The natural seawater is a key feature, providing a unique sensation compared to chlorinated pools. TikTokInstagram+1

Visitors often highlight the stunning ocean views that accompany a day of swimming. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore just beyond the complex adds to the atmosphere. While the pools are not heated, the Canarian climate generally ensures pleasant water temperatures, especially during warmer months. Remember that the water is replenished daily from the ocean, so expect a natural, invigorating feel. Instagram+1

Beyond swimming, the complex offers amenities like on-site bars and restaurants, providing convenient options for refreshments and meals. While some reviews mention staff being a bit unfriendly or closing early, the overall consensus is that it's a fantastic place for a day of sun, swimming, and relaxation. Reddit
