Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the breathtaking natural beauty of the Mallos de Riglos, describing them as an incredible and unique place. The towering rock formations are a paradise for climbers and offer stunning vistas for hikers. Birdwatching opportunities, especially for vultures, are a significant draw. While the village is charming, some find it isolated. Reddit

"Riglos, what an incredible place! I first visited the Mallos de Riglos with the UEA bird club back in 1984, when we saw Lammergeier, Black Wheatear and Blue Rock Thrush, among others. Nowadays you'll be lucky to spot the first two, although the latter is still there, along with Rock Sparrow, Sardinian Warbler and scores of Griffon Vultures, a few Egyptian Vultures and a few other interesting birds.
The main birding interest at Riglos however is between October and April, and the reason I still visit the site on our Winter Wallcreeper tours every November is the near certainty that we will see a Wallcreeper, or 2, or 4, plus one or two Alpine Accentors.
Then in late February and early March you have the return passage of the Common Cranes, when flocks of hundreds of these splendid birds pass between Riglos and Agüero, calling as they do.
The puddingstone formations that go by the name of "Mallos" are quite unique, and the early morning light and atmosphere is to be enjoyed. Then afterwards you can go for a refreshment or ice-cream and sit on the terrace of one of the local bars or cafés.
It's also a paradise for rock-climbers, and so bear this in mind at weekends or during public holidays, as Riglos can get very busy at such times."

"Very nice place for climbing. Conglomerate rock is nice on the fingertips so you can climb for several days straight with no problem. One of the best places for climbing multipitch routes in my opinion. It's very well bolted, but there are lots of trad routes left if that's what you are looking for. Some pitches are quite long, you should pay attention to your rope length. There's a very nice guide book with descriptions in Spanish, English and French. If you are not a climber, it's still worth a visit just for the sight alone. There are plenty of nice trails for walking or jogging."
