The people who served there are nice.
Dinner served was delicious."

Vincent Tan

"Wonderful monument of Navarese medieval culture and architecture of XIV century. Don't forget to visit the cloister where you are going to find the tomb of Navarese Knight Enel Omorio who died in 1393. Through the cloister you can get in to the Chapel where the Royal Navarese Mausoleum is and where you are going to find the tomb of King Sancho VII of Navarre who totally crashed Moors at famous battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. King was the real giant two meters and seven centimeters tall. So, entire complex is one of the greatest national monuments of the Kingdom of Navarre. There is also small museum dedicated to medieval Navarese culture where you can find two maces of beginning of XIII century. Alas! This part of the Kingdom of Navarre was conquered and annexed by the Kingdom of Aragon in 1512."

Beyond its role in the Camino, Roncesvalles Collegiate Church stands as a magnificent testament to Navarrese medieval culture. Its architecture, history, and the stories held within its walls make it a destination in itself, offering a rich historical context to the spiritual journey. Reddit

Architectural and Historical Significance

The Roncesvalles Collegiate Church is a remarkable example of Gothic architecture, dating primarily from the 14th century. Its imposing structure and intricate details speak to the wealth and power of the Kingdom of Navarre during the medieval period. Visitors are often struck by the grandeur of the main church, but the true historical gems lie within its more intimate spaces. Reddit

The cloister is a particularly serene area, offering a peaceful transition from the bustling Camino path to the solemnity of the church. Here, you can find the tomb of Enel Omorio, a Navarrese Knight who died in 1393, a poignant reminder of the region's martial history. Adjacent to the cloister is the Chapel, home to the Royal Navarrese Mausoleum. This sacred space houses the tomb of King Sancho VII of Navarre, a formidable figure renowned for his height (over two meters) and his pivotal role in the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. Reddit

Adding to the historical depth is a small museum dedicated to medieval Navarrese culture. It displays artifacts that offer a tangible connection to the past, including two maces from the early 13th century. While the region's history is rich, it's also noted that this part of Navarre was annexed by the Kingdom of Aragon in 1512, adding layers of political history to its story. Reddit
