"Located near the present-day Ribera de la Algaida area, the first columns, capitals, cornices, amphorae, and coins were collected by Miguel Ruiz de Villanueva in 1859. The editors of the newspaper La Crónica Meridional visited it in 1891. The report published by the Royal Academy of History indicated an area of 1 by 2 kilometers. The necropolis was located to the west. In 1958, the Unión Salinera company carried out a series of works that brought to light new prehistoric remains, to the southwest and west of the Roman settlement. When the urbanization of Las Palmerillas began, the Nasrid coastal tower of Torrequebrada was blown up in 1962.
Excavations were carried out in 1996. A necropolis was discovered in 2003 in the northern part, destroyed during the urbanization of the area. In 2004, the City Council carried out works to channel wastewater from Aguadulce through a pipeline that crossed the archaeological site; a few months later, it was used as a dumping ground.
