What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Casa Museo Miguel de Unamuno for its insightful look into the life of the renowned writer, Miguel de Unamuno. The guided tours are highlighted as particularly informative, with guides speaking clearly enough for non-Spanish speakers to follow. However, some note that the museum is more about Unamuno himself than the house's architecture, and the strict tour schedule can be a point of contention.
"Excellent visit guided professionally by a knowledgeable man.
Super interesting!"
Julio Cesar Perez Hernandez
"Better if you knew who Unamuno was. Mostly a museum about him not the house. He would have loved Instagram. House and furniture are just ok. Also the house is only available for guided tours which start at 10,11,12 and 1. So come at these exact times or you will find it closed. Tickets next door. 4 Euros"
Jim Rives
"An excellent insight into Unamuno's life and achievements, very informative. The guide was very helpful and made sure we were able to access the audio guidance in English."

The Life and Legacy of Miguel de Unamuno
The Casa Museo Miguel de Unamuno preserves the intimate environment where Unamuno lived and worked between 1900 and 1914. Visitors can explore his personal study, his extensive library of over 6,000 books, and see original furnishings that evoke his daily life. This immersive experience allows you to connect with the man behind the profound philosophical and literary works.
Beyond his academic and literary achievements, Unamuno also experienced periods of exile. Notably, he spent time in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. This period, though forced, led to significant literary output and a deep appreciation for the island. The museum in Salamanca offers a window into his life during his most productive years in the city.
Exploring the Casa Museo: What to Expect
One of the highlights is the opportunity to see restored artworks, such as the 'Basque Scenes,' which add an artistic dimension to the historical narrative. The museum also features exhibits on his connection to the University of Salamanca, where he served as rector, and even touches upon his cinematic connections, like the film 'Mientras Dure la Guerra.' The courtyard, with its famous vine, offers a moment of reflection, inspired by his poetry.
While the museum is rich in historical and literary context, it's important to note that the experience is heavily guided. The tours are conducted in Spanish, and while guides are knowledgeable and speak clearly, having some understanding of the language enhances the visit. The focus is on Unamuno's life and achievements, making it a deeply personal and informative journey for those interested in Spanish literature and philosophy.
