My visit to Toledo, Spain was one that I will never forget. Home to our Sephardic ancestors, an amazingly beautiful city with so much history. Both glory and pain are contained within its walls, today we continue to return to reconcile the past with the present, to acknowledge that we are here and hearing the voice of the Holy One of Israel! 🇮🇱🗝️🇪🇸🪬✡️ #sefarad #jewishancestry #borikenspharadla...

The existing documentation on the wall surrounding the city of Toledo dates back to the Islamic period.

The walled enclosure of Toledo contains all the elements typical of defensive constructions, such as towers (Almofala, Abades, Ben Alfarax, etc.), gates (Cambrón, Bisagra, Valmardón, Alcantara, Alfonso VI, etc.), corachas, and bridges over the Tagus (Alcántara or San Martín)."

"Very nice city, I was looking forward to seeing it at night."

"The walls of Toledo date back to the Islamic period, when there are vestiges and documentation of their existence. Their fortified layout coincides with that which remains today. It features all the elements that ensured its defense at that time, such as towers, gates (Cambrón, Bisagra, Valmardón, Alcantara, Alfonso VI, etc.), corachas, bridges, and small fortified redoubts in their surroundings. It is still evident today that the layout of these defenses was adapted to the Hispano-Muslim scheme, with its citadel, medina, and suburbs, each with its respective walled enclosures.

The construction of the walls uses Islamic masonry, with granite ashlars of varying sizes from earlier constructions (Roman and Visigothic periods), in addition to other elements resulting from the numerous subsequent repairs to the defenses. The walls are made up of double walls, filled with other pieces of different sizes, joined together with lime and sand mortar. Its towers have a square or rectangular floor plan.

It has six sections: the first corresponds to the northern section of the wall preserved between the Alcántara Gate and the Cambrón Gate. The second covers the section between the Cambrón Gate and the San Martín Bridge. The third is identified with the streets of San Sebastián, with its Iron Tower as a prominent feature. The fourth corresponds to the walled enclosure that runs from the Alcázar to the Alcántara Gate. The fifth section corresponds to a part of the northern or Bisagra suburb, which later became known as the San Isidro or Antequeruela suburb, and finally, the sixth section comprises a second part of the northern suburb known as the Santiago suburb or La Granja neighborhood."
