What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bodega Numanthia is highly regarded for the exceptional quality and power of its Tinta de Toro wines, particularly those from old vines. However, some visitors find the tasting fees to be quite high for the included pours and accompaniments, leading to a mixed perception of value for the overall experience.
"We visited Numanthia and came away very disappointed. Their wine, as expected, was very good. The guide took us to the vineyard and explained how the soil conditions and geography contributed to the quality of the wine.
However, the 60€ pp tasting for a cold glass of Termes and Numanthia, with a small bowl of picos, left a bad taste in my mouth and my wallet. Adding a tasting of Termanthia would have been a 150€ “experience”. Thank you, but no thank you!
Wine shipping was not provided nor purchasing a corkscrew was available.
One would expect a wine of this quality would also have offered an equally equivalent wine tasting experience.
My 2-star review would have been 1 star, but quality of the wine biased this review."

"Very good tour and the guide was excellent as well. Why one star? I guess for 40 euros a person I was expecting a bottle of wine at the end of the tour, instead my wife and I (80 euros) was give 1 wine opener. I can not in good faith recommend such an expensive tour. In any other bodega that the same tour would be 10 euros a person."
Charlie Teena
"Quant, high quality wines produced from vines up to 120 years old. Remarkable accompaniment to food."

While the wine quality is rarely disputed, the overall tasting package—sometimes including just a small bowl of 'picos'—has led to disappointment for some. It's important for potential visitors to set clear expectations: you are paying for access to taste exceptional wines and learn about their production, rather than for an elaborate culinary or extensive pour experience. For those prioritizing the wine itself and the insights into its creation, the visit can still be very rewarding.
