"After the Las Huelgas monastery, this is the oldest in Valladolid. Even Manuel Canesi considers it “the first convent of nuns”, stating that its introduction in Valladolid was around 1256.
In 1636, the overflow of the Pisuerga reached the convents of Santa Teresa and San Quirce, causing serious damage, although the church and choir were able to resist due to their solid construction.
Regarding the building, in 1620 the architect Francisco de Praves, “His Majesty's master of works”, made the conditions and agreed to carry out the works on the convent. The project referred to creating “the body of the main church, sacristy, chapter, staircase, cloister and super-cloister”, according to Praves' own design. According to the definitive agreement of February 28, 1621, Francisco de Praves undertook to build said monastery and the “passage of His Majesty.”
In the summer of 2019, the residential building of the convent of San Quirce and Santa Julita, a block attached to the church, built in the seventies and without historical value, will go through the picket next summer to make way "immediately" for the construction of a complex of 72 apartments for seniors under a cooperative regime on the corner of San Quirce Street and Plaza de la Trinidad.
