Reviews Summary
The English College is a deeply spiritual and historically significant site, particularly noted for its English Mass and the revered Vulnerata statue. Visitors praise the warm welcome from seminarians and the devotional atmosphere, though general public access is limited, often requiring specific arrangements or attendance at scheduled events.
"This is a fascinating place for Mass in English on Sundays during term times. Check the notice board first though. You'd get to see the Vulnerata. The statue of the virgin badly desecrated by English in Cadiz in 1596. It's a moving and beautiful sixteenth century piece of religious art. She inspires, uplifts and accompanies the student priests there. They love her. There are huge fine paintings high in the chapel telling the story of the image in chronological order. This statue comes out on to the street briefly late on the Monday night in holy week, semana santa. She greets her crucified son. It's moving and profound. Note the feet of the child Jesus remaining on the holy mother's lap. English protestant iconoclasts inflicted the violence. English catholics have spent over 400 years making reparations for the desecration. This is a holy, historic and unique treasure to behold. Not worthy of five stars here but countless stars."

"They do NOT let people tour this place, it's such a gem. A school for English priests for centuries and so much history (especially the recovery of the Statue of Our Lady from Cadiz, pictured in the Chapel). My daughter and I were however allowed a private tour due to family reasons and the hall of martyrs was amazing the courtyard, rooms etc steeped in history and we feel privileged to share our picture with you"

"A warm place to sit and think. Not to mention the fantastic organ sound, the mass, such a devotional act (unique in town) and, of course, the kindness of seminarians make this college special."
