The presence of the Trinitarians in Valladolid dates back to 1605, when they settled near the Cuesta de la Maruquesa. In 1670, they bought some houses next to the palace of the Count of Benavente, and began construction of a church around 1715, likely designed by the Trinitarian Friar José de la Santísima Trinidad, the community's architect.
Despite its large size, the church is a simple building, constructed of brick and adobe, with a Latin cross floor plan formed by the nave and transept, covered with a barrel vault, and with connecting side chapels enclosed by grilles.
The most notable feature of the church is its stone façade, most notably the doorway, which follows the Mannerist models of the early 17th century.
A fire in 1893 destroyed the church's main altarpiece, and today there is a late 19th-century altarpiece that includes reliefs, paintings, and decorative remains from an earlier Rococo altarpiece."
