It’s the perfect spot for photography, whether you want to capture the tower itself or the panoramic views stretching in every direction.
I enjoyed strolling around the area, soaking in the atmosphere of the fort, and then pausing by the tower to simply admire how seamlessly history and nature blend here. It’s also a great meeting point, as many locals and visitors alike gather around the tower before exploring the rest of the fort.
What adds to the charm is the sense of calm despite being in a popular destination. Standing under the tower, you can hear the ocean breeze and the distant chatter of people enjoying their day. It’s peaceful, yet alive with stories.
For anyone visiting Galle, the Clock Tower is more than just a quick photo stop—it’s a chance to feel connected to the heritage of the city. A simple yet powerful symbol of Galle’s colonial past, it’s definitely worth the visit."

"Galle Fort is a fortified old city built originally by the Portuguese in the late 16th century, and then extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th and 18th centuries. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, both because of its colonial heritage and its relatively well-preserved city structure, architecture, and ramparts.
The thick stone walls/ramparts are one of the most iconic features. You can walk around them and enjoy ocean views, the sea breeze, and sunset.
At the southeastern tip of the Fort on Point Utrecht Bastion. Good for views, photos, and enjoying the ocean panorama.
A heritage building from the Dutch colonial period. Now converted into a dining & shopping precinct. Great place to have meals, relax, and see colonial architecture blended with modern uses."

"The Clock Tower in Galle Fort is a lovely old landmark, built in 1883 in memory of Dr. Peter Daniel Anthonisz. It stands about four storeys tall (≈ 25 meters) just inside the fort walls, at the Moon Bastion, on the site of the old guard room.

It’s a great place for a quiet walk, good photos, and seeing views of the fort, the sea, and even the nearby cricket stadium. Sometimes the clock doesn’t work, but the structure itself has character, history, and a strong presence in the Fort."
