"One of a unique temple situated in Peradeniya, temple has got two entraces .
When talking about the temple, it belongs to 3 eras, one is anuradhapura, kandyan era and some 1800s paintings. Anuradhapura painting play a major role, it enhances the historical nature of the temple. This era painting can be found on the rock surface just above the roof a plaster which is badly detoriated. Kandyan era paintings can be found inside the shrine room , the horizontal panels are quite larger than other temples, the reclining buddha statue belongs to southern style , coner 2 statues are kandyan, cave is narrow and long and this temple contains the longest depiction of Màra paràjaya throughout the ceiling. Outer wall contains southern style of 19th century paintings, youll find some kandyan paintings outer wall right side from the entrance at top.
More exciting thing is that there's a water cannal, water is soo pure and cold, enjoy but please don't pollute the environment, its well maintained and conserved ."

"Hindagala Raja Maha Viharaya is picturesquely situated on a rock close to the University Campus at Peradeniya along the Galaha Road. It has rock inscriptions dating back to the 6th century that speaks of the history of this temple. Amidst the ruined temple paintings of the 6th century are found paintings on the walls of the temple belonging to different periods of recent history.
The cave shrine and monastery known as Hindagala Raja Maha Viharaya is situated in the Kandukarapahala Korale of Udapalatha Division of Kandy District. The cave shrine is situated on a hill commanding a panoramic and idyllic of the hill ranges belted the Mahaveli river valley about 1.5 kms, away from Peradeniya University turns off on Peradeniya-Galaha Road. The shrine has to be reached through a steep ascent of 50m from the ground level, through a motorable narrow pathway and a flight of steps, in an utter state of despair, with stones of uneven surface. The hill on a clear day gives a view of the Adam’s Peak, hence, being selected in ancient times as residence of meditative monks in the the pre Christian eras."
