What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Jaffna Fort for its atmospheric heritage architecture and spectacular lagoon views, especially during sunset. While the star-shaped design is a highlight, some reviewers note that the site could benefit from better maintenance and more informative signage. Despite these minor drawbacks, it's considered a worthwhile visit for history enthusiasts and photographers.
"It’s a quiet place, ideal for photography and exploring the heritage architecture. You can also see many couples spending time together here. However, the area could be better maintained — cleanliness and information boards are lacking. Still, it’s worth a visit for those interested in history and sea views, especially during the evening when the sunset adds to its charm."

"Jaffna Fort is a great place to visit, known for its unique five-sided, star shape. The Portuguese first built it in 1618, and the Dutch later made it much bigger and stronger. Although the fort was badly damaged in the civil war, it is currently being restored. You can walk along the top of the huge walls to see the old ruins, like the church and Queen's House, and get amazing views of the lagoon. It is best to go in the late afternoon to beat the sun and feel the powerful history of this famous landmark."

"Atmospheric and reasonably well preserved fort. It is quite a large site and there is not much shade. Small ticket booth near the road. Small exhibition inside the fort. Views to surrounding lagoon and Causeway are spectacular."
