Now functioning as a tourist attraction and a male children home. Entrance tickets are cheap and parking available inside the premises. The guide will give you a tour with the history of this place. All this will take around half an hour to 1 hour."
Milinda Bandaranayake
"I recently visited Richmond Castle and it was such a beautiful and peaceful experience! The architecture is absolutely stunning — a blend of Edwardian style with a touch of local charm. The castle has a rich history, built between 1900 and 1910 by Mudaliyar Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena. The two-story mansion has 99 doors, 34 windows, and many details imported from Europe, like Italian tiles, Burmese teak, and Scottish glasswork.
The surrounding garden is calm and scenic, overlooking the Kalu Ganga River. It’s a great place for photography, learning history, or just enjoying a quiet walk. There’s also a sense of nostalgia and respect when walking through the rooms and hearing the story of the man who built it.
It only took about 10–30 minutes from Kalutara town to reach the castle — I went using PickMe, and the ride was very convenient.
Highly recommend visiting. It’s a hidden gem full of beauty and heritage!"
