"A true forest escape in the middle of Kandy! 🌳🌿
Udawatta Kele Sanctuary is a historic national forest reserve that gives you an authentic forest vibe — tall trees, thick greenery, and the sounds of nature all around. Just minutes away from the Temple of the Tooth, yet it feels like you’ve stepped deep into the wilderness.
Tickets are very affordable (Rs. 75 for locals) and Rs. 930 for foreigners. The walking trails are shaded and peaceful, with plenty of birds, monkeys, and plants to see. It’s best to visit in the morning or evening for cooler weather. Carry water and wear comfy shoes since some paths are uphill.
If you’re a couple, a family, or simply someone who loves nature, this sanctuary is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with the forest atmosphere. A must-visit in Kandy! 🍃✨"

"The place is quite big so we did one trail and it was lovely. We heard lots of birds and saw monkeys. The path is easy to walk on and the staff were nice.
It would have helped to have more signage because we weren't sure where to go at some points. So, take a picture of the big map at the entrance for support.
When you get to the caves, don't go any further along the path outside it because there are dogs on that side and we were chased by them. I'm posting a picture of that area (The caves are on the right). Management needs to make it clearer that we shouldn't be going that way with signs.
There is no picnic spot inside the park, so we ate outside it. There's lots of monkeys so probably a good idea not to picnic inside the park anyway.
Overall, it was really nice and relaxing. I wish we had had more time to cover more ground."
