I’m in-love with them!!!! 🐢🥹 PSA, I actually didn’t know you aren’t supposed to touch them until I posted this video. 😣 So just to clarify I only touched that one super gently, no others. I’ve educated myself on this topic since posting this, so please anyone watching this take note to not touch a wild turtle! All love 🤍 #turtlebeach #srilanka #worldtravel #srilankatravel #seaturtle #hikkaduwa

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation and Research Centre for its dedication to protecting sea turtles, especially the heartwarming opportunity to release baby turtles. While the facility is well-maintained and the turtles appear well-cared for, some local visitors have noted a lack of readily available educational information, making the experience less engaging for those seeking deeper insights.

"We visited the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation, our guide explained about every turtle as well as all the other creatures they are helping from their facility. It was heartbreaking to see the turtles that can no longer dive due to the amount of plastic they have ingested but I am glad there are people like this who are helping them as best as they can. Amazing work helping these beautiful creatures Kosgoda Turtle Conservation❤️"

"Visited the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation and Research Centre with high hopes of learning about turtle conservation. While the place has a very good collection of turtles, including thousands of baby turtles and several large ones in separate tanks, the overall experience for local visitors was disappointing.

We were charged LKR 250 per head( Charge is reasonable), but unfortunately, no one was available to explain the activities or provide any educational insight. This made it difficult to understand the valuable work likely being done there. The area itself is maintained to a sufficient standard, and the turtles appear to be well taken care of, which is admirable.

As a place to see turtles up close, it’s worth a short visit. But if you're a local visitor hoping to engage, learn, or get information, this place might leave you feeling a bit disconnected. A simple improvement like having a staff member or guide available could make a big difference in offering a more informative and meaningful experience.

In summary, a good spot to view turtles, but currently not ideal for locals expecting interactive or educational engagement."

"Kosgoda Turtle Conservation and Research Centre is doing remarkable work in protecting and nurturing endangered sea turtles along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline. Their efforts have helped safeguard thousands of baby turtles by relocating vulnerable eggs from beaches to safer hatcheries. Visitors get a close look at the hatching process and, in some cases, can witness the incredible sight of baby turtles being released into the ocean—a truly unforgettable experience for both adults and kids.

The staff here are well-trained, knowledgeable, and passionate about their mission. They take the time to explain the lifecycle of turtles and the importance of conservation, making it a great learning experience for children and families. The facility also houses injured or disabled turtles, including some rare species.

However, entry tickets and donations can feel a bit on the expensive side. That said, the cause justifies the cost, as the centre relies on public support to continue its vital conservation work. It’s a completely new and meaningful experience, far different from typical tourist spots. For families, nature lovers, and anyone interested in wildlife preservation, Kosgoda Turtle Centre is a must-visit destination in Sri Lanka."
