Reviews Summary

This museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Sri Lanka's naval history within a historic 17th-century building. Visitors appreciate the collection of artifacts, the passionate staff, and the scenic rooftop view. However, the museum clearly suffers from a lack of funding, with some areas needing significant maintenance and lighting improvements.

"Really interesting spot if you’re into history. The place has a nice collection of shells and maritime relics, plus some beautiful old cannons displayed outside at the entrance that instantly catch your eye. The best part was being able to climb up to the rooftop for a view over Dutch Bay.

The building itself is impressive but honestly looks a bit run-down, and inside some of the rooms had no electricity, so I ended up using my phone flashlight to look around.

Entry is free, though they do accept donations, which feels fair considering the condition of the place.

Overall, it’s a beautiful and atmospheric place, but it clearly suffers from lack of funding and maintenance."

Dmytro Moraru

"The museum exhibits interesting historical artifacts and shares vast knowledge about the maritime vessels along with facts on Trincomalee harbor.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The building and the surrounding premises are badly in need of an upgrade. However they said that they were out of tickets since it's a weekend (Sunday) so we were asked to pay Rs. 100 per head. I saw some reviews which said they were free to enter while others have paid only Rs. 20 per head, so it wouldn't be certain until you visit.

The lights were flickering in certain exhibit areas and some exhibits were in the dark. There seemed to be a few empty rooms and the place doesn't seem to be well maintained. They must give priority for the renovation."

"Historical building displaying range of maritime artifacts. Diarama illustrative of key Sri Lanka naval events. Shows national intent to preserve significant buildings."
