What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Weligama Fish Market for its incredibly fresh seafood and authentic local experience. The opportunity to select your catch and have it cooked beachside with stunning ocean views is a major draw. While most find the food delicious and reasonably priced, a few have mentioned minor issues with portion clarity.
"It’s a place we came to twice from Unawatuna and it’s absolutely worth it to go. Both times we came to Mama’s place. They cook for you great fish, squid or shrimps and have a perfect service abs atmosphere. Best food I’ve tried there, best prices for this amount of food and it was cooked in a perfect way. It’s worth it to come even from an other city to spend time there and to eat. We did it few times, and prices have been around 2000-3000 rupees for a fish, shrimps have been 3500 for a kilo, big plate of salade 1000, rice or potatoes the same."

"We ordered some prawns, a tiger fish and grilled pineapple - and it was amazing. We didn‘t have to wait long for our food to be served freshly made, although in the dream location where this restaurant is located directly at the beach, we would habe been fine waiting even for a long time.
The food was perfectly cooked, and we even got a bowl of steamed rice for free with our meal.
All in all I am definetly coming back! Thank you very much."

"Ordered 1/2 kg of squid for 1500lkr. However, do not think what they cook is what they displayed and showed me as there is not squid here in the cooked dish, as well as there were many more squids but much smaller, can see from the tail end of the cooked squid. Although the taste is good, but felt cheated. Will not eat from them again."
