What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently describe Hornsund as one of the most spectacular and breathtaking fjords in Spitsbergen, with rugged mountains and magnificent glaciers. The serene beauty of bays like Burgerbukta and the opportunities for wildlife sightings are frequently praised. However, the unpredictable Arctic weather and the remoteness can sometimes lead to fog or challenging conditions, impacting visibility.
"After departing Aberdeen, Scotland and visiting the Faroe Islands and Jan Mayen, Quark Expedition's flagship, Ultramarine, brought us to the small bay off Hornsund. We were entering our second full day of midnight sun and were able to make a beach landing using the Zodiacs and the boots that Quark supplied all its guests.
Our destination for the morning excursion was Gnålodden, a relatively small half-crescent bay on the northern shores of Hornsund fjord. In the afternoon, we found a colony of little auks nest amongst the rocky scree slopes of Isbjørnhamna, on the northern shore at the entrance to Hornsund.
A keen-eyed guest spotted an arctic fox tracking the fledgling auks and eggs that had fallen from the many nests embedded in the scree. We also came alongside resting walruses, floating on a bit of ice just off our starboard side."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Key recommendations for families: Choose an expedition cruise that is known for being family-friendly, as they often have activities tailored for children.
