"Fantastic park, at daytime at least. At night it feels a bit unsafe, especially because of lack of lights in the park at night. But in general it’s great experience to walk through, maybe have a picnic. There is much life in park, especially in the summer when people are having picnics, meditating and such there."
Michael Hessen
"Vasaparken serves as a centrally located large green oasis for walking and spending time and has a long history.
It was established as a royal garden in the 16th century.Through a royal letter in 1863, the park was granted to the city of Västerås. The city made contributions to the development of the park, which took on the character of an English park typical of the time. The park's first work of art is the bust of Gustav Vasa, which was unveiled in 1864. In connection with this, Kungsträdgården was renamed Vasaparken.
Today, the park retains the character of an English park, featuring large trees, rolling lawns, and pathways.
Interestingly, in the 1720s, cucumbers began to be grown in what is now Vasaparken by gardener B. J. Bohnsack. The cultivation of cucumbers became popularised, and soon Västerås pickles were known throughout the country."
