What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Bex Salt Mines for their unique underground experience, historical insights, and engaging guided tours. The underground train ride and impressive salt formations are consistently highlighted as memorable aspects. While the price is noted as a bit high, the overall experience, including local tastings, is considered well worth it for a one-time visit. Some find the public transport access challenging and note limited English explanations.
"Two hours went by quickly thanks to our excellent tour guide who spoke in both French and German with a great sense of humour.
The tour itself was informative and not too technical about the history & extracting aspect of the mines. There was, however, no display of huge piles of refined salt (which could be seen in some photos of the Basel mines).
The most spectacular scenes in the mines were the salt pillar coming from the ceiling and the salt wall where you may taste the water. The lighting in the mines could be very beautiful. There was a restaurant in the mines which could fit about 50 people.
There was almost no time and no mobile signal in the mines to read/hear the translation app that was recommended by this tour (they suggested you to download it at reception). This could be challenging for non-French/-German visitors.
An on-the-go tasting of cheese, the caramel crème, and Zweifel chips was offered at the end of the tour.
The location was difficult to reach via public transport. Free parking was available on site."

"Fantastic visite. Really interesting and well done. You should know that you go 1.6km into the mountain with a little train that miners take. Miners go much further but keep in mind that if you are claustrophobic this might be difficult.
The visit was very interesting and excellent guide. We also had a few tastings which were excellent.
Truly worth the stop!!
If you can reserve your tour before I would advise. We didn’t and were able to get on the last repo. But check the web site."

"Very nice experience visiting this underground salt mine! It’s a bit pricey (27 CHF per person) but it’s worth for a one time visit.
They have a lot of explanation but unfortunately when I came it’s was only in French, no English.
We had an unforeseen event and arrived 20 minutes late but they were really kind and let us in!
It’s recommended to book the ticket online in advance as this attraction can get sold out quickly, specially during weekend or holiday."
