Visitors rave about the Sentiero dell'Olivo for its stunning lake views, charming olive groves, and the picturesque village of Gandria. The walk is described as beautiful, relaxing, and mostly shaded, with many recommending a boat trip to start. Some note that it's not entirely flat and can be busy, with puddles possible after rain.
"Beautiful walk, with amazing views of towns and the lake. Takes around 2 hours there and back at a leisurely pace and is easily accessible by bus from Lugano. Relatively flat, with some small inclines and some stairs close to Gandria. On rainier days be aware that the paths can be covered in unavoidable puddles so waterproof footware is advised."

"This is a very beautiful path from Gandria to Castagnola.
I recommend to take a ferry from Lugano, get out in Gandria, have lunch there with a breathtaking view and then take this path and walk/hike all the way (around 50min) to Castagnola. A lot of shadow, easy to walk, amazing views!"

"If you’d like an easy (mostly) shaded stroll with stunning lake views, I recommend the Gandria Olive Trail. Take the boat from Lugano (about 40 minutes) and get off at Grotto Elvezia, then walk to Gandria (around 30 minutes). Have lunch at Locanda Gandriese - reserve a balcony table for 1 pm to avoid the sun and enjoy one of the most beautiful views along with excellent food. Afterwards, you can walk a bit further and catch the ferry back to Lugano from Gandria. A short, sweet change of pace if you’re staying in Lugano."
