What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary for its breathtaking views and beautiful, well-preserved architecture. Many highlight the convenience of the funicular and the free entry, though some note the significant number of steps involved. The on-site museum is a bonus for those who can catch it during its opening hours.
"We were visiting Locarno with friends and came here on a sunny summer day. Thankfully there weren’t many others so we were able to enjoy walking around. This church is amazing for its location and design. The interior has been well preserved, maybe restored. There are some 3D depictions of biblical events that are curious. The museum was closed so I can’t comment on that. Beware that there are many steps down (and up!) from the funicular stop. I definitely recommend spending time here. Cool spot."

"A beautiful Catholic church that dates back to the 15th century, and the site of a Marian apparition. You can access it by funicular, or there's some street parking near the funicular station - otherwise it's a bit of an uphill walk from Locarno (I think ~20min). Nice views of the lake, and very ornate decorations in the church, with a particularly nice oil painting from the 19th century of Jesus being carried from the cross."
Michel Lamblin
"Free and beautiful. Totally worth a visit, if you are already there. Cannot complain at all!
Note: If you want to see the museum, it is free, but check the opening hours!"
