Has Anyone Visited Sils Maria?
I'm thinking of taking a trip there in the Fall. I know I can visit the house, but I am more interested in walking the trails where Nietzsche got his inspiration. Does anyone know if they are marked, or if a local guide might be available?
Just Visited Sils Maria; It was Awesome.
Well worth visiting. The Nietzsche Haus (museum, residence) where he stayed shows his room, and many aspects of his life and influence. Hiking the trails that he did was amazing. The rock where he wrote his friend (Gast?) that he had the inspiration for "eternal recurrence"…

10 photos from an excursion to Sils Maria, popular destination of the Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.
Edit: Album for mobile users below [Photo #1](https://imgur.com/eIzykBS) My first photo is the view from the window of my hostel. Already one can see giant mountains looming over the small Swiss town. I took a train to this place, and immediately after exiting you can sense…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Nietzsche House a deeply affecting and unique experience, especially the chance to see his writing room. While the limited hours and philosophical focus might not appeal to everyone, particularly children, the connection to one of history's most influential thinkers is considered priceless by many. The surrounding Engadin Valley offers beautiful trails that further enhance the pilgrimage.
"He’s one of the most important thinkers in the past several centuries and magnetic, in addition. He writes more vividly and personally than any important thinker. There would have been no Existentialism and no Postmodernism without him, and no contemporary movements of empowerment. I’ve taught him for 35 years just so my students could encounter the wildness that is their potential, too. It’s strange to see the number of pilgrims to this place where he spent summers during his most productive years. He wanted no followers but I understand the desire to be close to him and his provocations. I saw families with children, studious-looking people, eccentric-looking people, surely people writing their own wildness, people living off of his (that would be me). To be honest, the museum didn’t appeal to me. I can learn about Nietzsche elsewhere. But seeing the room where he lived and wrote - that had unusual and deeply affecting power. Yes, it costs 10 francs and, yes, it’s only open for three hours a day (3-6pm). I’m fine with both."

"Nietzsche-Haus, nestled in the heart of Sils-Maria, Switzerland, offers an immersive journey into the life and mind of the renowned philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. This meticulously preserved historic home provides a glimpse into the intellectual sanctuary where Nietzsche crafted some of his most profound works. From the serene surroundings of the Engadin Valley to the intimate study where Nietzsche penned his philosophical masterpieces, every corner of Nietzsche-Haus resonates with a profound sense of inspiration and contemplation. Whether you're a devoted Nietzsche scholar or simply curious about his life and ideas, a visit to Nietzsche-Haus promises a captivating exploration of one of history's most influential thinkers."

"A must see for any Nietzsche enthusiasts out there.
As you go through the booklet that is given at the beginning, you keep immersing yourself into Nietzsche's more personal side, giving him a different dimension from the philosophical Nietzsche. Going through the museum feels like reading him, where you must piece seemingly unrelated pieces of information together in order to find an overarching story.
The staff was kind and the shop has postcards and some of Nietzsche's books in different languages (mainly german, english and italian).
Granted, this won't be for everyone, and in particular it's definitely quite boring for children (although they go in for free). The price can also feel a bit steep if you're not a student (10CHF instead of 5CHF). But being in the same house (in the same room!) where he was inspired to write such groundbreaking books has no price, and may even inspire you too to strive for the übermensch ;)"
