Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Münzkabinett und Antikensammlung for its excellent, albeit compact, collection of Roman coins and its beautiful setting within Villa Bühler and its park. While some note it's not as grand as larger international collections, its curated selection and the tranquil park make it a worthwhile and enjoyable experience for history enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful retreat.

"Very nice place to sit/walk dogs/have 10 minutes of peace in the garden"

Halil Emre ISIK

"At Lindstrasse 8 in Winterthur, amidst a beautiful park, stands Villa Bühler and the coin cabinet it now houses. A coin collection has existed in Winterthur since 1660, and a coin cabinet proper since 1861, at that time still located in the city library.
Today's coin cabinet comprises nine rooms. Two of these historic rooms in Villa Bühler, owned by the Canton of Zurich, are used for exhibitions.
It's not surprising that Winterthur is home to the best collection of Roman coins in Switzerland. Around the year 1, Vitudurum, a Roman settlement in what is now the city of Winterthur, was established along the Roman road from Vindonissa to Lake Constance.
Although the exhibition appears rather small at first glance, it provides an excellent overview of various topics. Large magnifying glasses are also available so that details of the coins can be viewed. Some coins are also very small.
The exhibition is interesting, exciting and absolutely worth seeing, as is the temporary exhibition on medal art."

Guido Wassermann

"A very small but thoroughly successful exhibition. Of course, it can't compete with larger coin collections like those in Berlin or Vienna, but the space available does present a coherent and carefully selected selection of coins."
