What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Zermatt's stunning Matterhorn views and excellent outdoor activities like skiing and mountain biking. The car-free village charm and efficient public transport are also highlights. However, some guests have reported issues with bike rental quality and customer service, particularly regarding mechanical failures and communication.
"Great for mtb rental, solid bikes and great service. I admit getting flats is easy here so you should ask for a repair kit to put on your bike or get the mechanics number or WhatsApp if you’re on eSIM data only. You can call them and they’ll ride up to help repair.
My experience:
I got an enduro and had a great time, the bike was great and only got 2 flats, first one had to go back to the shop, the second one I was able to fix on the trail. Only got these flats because I was shredding from trockener steg, super rocky trails. Otherwise had a great time and the mechanics were very helpful and spoke fluent English."

"I am a professional bicycle mechanic from South Korea with over 10 years of experience in the cycling industry, including more than 5 years of active enduro and mountain biking.
As part of my honeymoon, I had long dreamed of riding the famous 4-lake trail from Sunnegga in Zermatt. Unfortunately, that long-awaited ride was ruined just 30 minutes after starting due to a sudden and severe drop in tire pressure during a basic downhill section. This led to tire deformation and a slip that caused me to crash.
When I reported this incident to the rental shop, their first response was: “Why didn’t you contact us at the time?”
As a foreign visitor without a local SIM card and with limited English skills, contacting the shop in the middle of an emergency crash was not a realistic option—especially while experiencing physical pain and confusion.
Still, I didn’t give up. With the help of fellow riders and a nearby mountain restaurant, I borrowed a floor pump to reinflate the tire. However, when I tried to open the valve, the valve core detached completely by hand, releasing all the remaining air.
As a trained mechanic, I can state with certainty: a Presta valve core should not loosen or detach by hand without a core removal tool. If it does, it was either not installed properly or not tightened to the appropriate torque. This is a clear sign of poor pre-rental inspection or negligence.
In addition, the shop never adjusted the tire pressure or suspension settings based on my body weight. I received no safety briefing, no emergency contact information, and no instruction on how to respond in case of mechanical issues—even though they knew I was not fluent in English.
When I returned the bike and explained the situation, not a single person asked if I was okay, if I had been hurt, or offered a simple “sorry” for the mechanical failure that caused the crash. Instead, the tone suggested I might have done something wrong.
Later, the manager told me the bike was “fine” again after simply replacing the valve core. But that only confirms what I had reported: the valve core was defective, and the bike should never have been rented out in that condition.
To make matters worse, I lost an expensive pair of sunglasses during the crash and paid for a gondola ride that I couldn’t use properly. Most importantly, I lost precious time on what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
In the end, I received a refund—but only after persistent explanation and what felt like subtle blame-shifting. I’m not writing this review out of emotion. I’m writing it based on facts, and any experienced rider or mechanic would immediately understand the seriousness of this situation.
You said, “If you had just contacted us, everyone could have had a good evening.”
But if you had properly inspected the bike and simply provided a basic emergency protocol, I wouldn’t have had to go through any of this.
Before pointing fingers at others, please take a closer look at your own responsibilities.
To Matterhorn Sport: I sincerely hope you take this feedback seriously and improve your pre-rental inspection standards and communication protocols—especially when dealing with international guests.
And just for the record—
A Presta valve core should not be bent, nor should it come loose by hand.
That’s basic maintenance.
Assuming, of course, that maintenance is actually performed.

"I Hired an e-bike of Chris to explore the mtb tracks around Zermatt. He hooked me up with a great bike helmet and gloves. Gave me a a map then suggested the best places for me to ride. Then he proceeded to set the bike up to my custom specs including swapping the brake lines. He couldn't been more helpful.
I couldn't be happier with my experience with Chris at Matterhorn Sport and highly recommend it to anyone that wants to take on the Zermatt tracks."
