Booked two rooms five months ago. Arrived at hotel to be told the only room in our booking class was directly overlooking the entry area, where noise was an issue and second-hand smoke from waiting drivers was noticeable. Told hotel was full and nothing could be done.
I cannot say that I felt there was a “Let’s find a way to solve this” attitude that I would expect at a high-end hotel. Had I been informed that the only room available would overlook the entry circle for the hotel, I would not have booked there. We downgraded our room to avoid the noise and smoke.
The room on the quieter side of the hotel had a nice view, though we discovered that the road leading to the hotel ran up that side of the hill. So not as quiet as hoped. Interior of the room was nice though.
We discovered that guests would smoke on their balconies, and the drafts up the hill would push the smoke smell into your room if you left the door open (or were sitting on your own balcony). I guess not the hotel’s “fault”, but definitely a negative for our experience.
Dinner at the restaurant was good, though very expensive, and daily breakfast buffet was a strong effort and a positive highlight. Pool was great. Spa was good. Woods around the hotel had some trails we hiked and saw some cool birds."
