Reviews Summary

Adır Lim Island is a historically rich but largely undeveloped destination. Visitors appreciate its untouched natural beauty and the intriguing ruins of an ancient settlement and church. However, the lack of facilities, the dilapidated state of the structures, and the informal access arrangements are noted drawbacks.

"Adır Island, formerly known as Lim Island, is an island located in the northern part of Lake Van and measures approximately 1 km² (2.41 km from end to end and approximately 670 m wide at its widest point). The distance between the island and its closest point to land is approximately 1.74 km.

The nearest port to the island is located between the villages of Halkalı and Yaylıyaka. It can be reached by a 15-20 minute ferry. We encountered no other animals on the island, apart from seagulls and snakes. The grass on the island is lush and untrodden, making it quite gentle and tiring to walk. There are abundant almond trees on the island, along with black mulberry and hawthorn trees.

The ruins of an ancient settlement are located on the island. At the center of these ruins is a church, only partially standing today. We also saw two water wells on the island, and it is said there were four. There is also a cemetery.

When we examine the island's history, various sources describe it as home to a significant library (Lim Monastery) containing manuscripts, as well as a monastery that provided boarding education. It is also said that the island was once used by villagers as a pasture for sheep grazing.

While exploring the island, we saw numerous dead seagulls. Frankly, we were curious about the cause, but we couldn't definitively determine the cause."

"We couldn't go to the island. The villagers take us on their boats. A round trip costs 1,000 lira. There are no set hours or schedules. If you're going, you should go in a group to make it more economical. We don't know how long they stay on the island. So, we just looked at the island from afar and then returned."

Adır Island, the largest in Van by area, should definitely be opened to tourism.
