However, some visitors have noted inconsistent service and limited food options, with occasional disappointment regarding the availability of certain dishes.

"The service was spotty. I had to get up and call the waiter myself. The portions were small, and the taste was poor. Despite being a municipal business, the prices weren't any lower than outside. Whatever you wanted, they told me they didn't have it. We ordered çiğ börek and gözleme for breakfast, and they said they didn't make it in the mornings due to high demand. Who cares? Çı börek and gözleme are breakfast staples after 2 p.m. I definitely don't recommend them. The tables were covered in dust, as if they hadn't been wiped for weeks."

"Değirmendere Waterside Houses, located on the Değirmendere coast of Kocaeli's Gölcük district, is a unique historical and cultural site located on one of the most beautiful corners of the Gulf of İzmit. Developed as one of the Gölcük Municipality's most important tourism-focused projects, this area stands out with its nearly century-long history. Located in the old Yalı neighborhood, these elegant examples of civil architecture have been faithfully restored and preserved for the present day. The restoration of a total of 12 registered buildings and a mosque was completed with the approval of the Cultural and Natural Heritage Board, transforming the area into a virtual open-air museum.
Değirmendere Waterside Houses stands out not only for its historical character but also for the amenities it offers. Visitors can explore art-filled venues such as the Ceramics Museum and the Wooden Sculpture Museum, and spend time in the library, which houses thousands of books. You can also enjoy a delightful breakfast or lunch break overlooking the sea at one of the restaurants and cafes. This venue, especially popular on weekends with its mixed breakfast and plated breakfast options, is popular, and its historic atmosphere adds a unique flavor to the meal. Small shops selling local products offer a great opportunity for those looking to shop for souvenirs and learn about the local culture.

Its seaside location allows guests to wake up to the sound of waves in the morning and stroll along the beach in the evening. Furthermore, dedicated spaces for art events, an amphitheater, and authentic gardens make it ideal for those seeking both relaxation and a cultural journey.
It's also in a highly convenient location in terms of transportation. It's just a few minutes' walk from the Değirmendere Ferry Terminal. You can easily reach it by minibus from Kocaeli city center or by buses 721 and 722. For those arriving by car, parking is generally easy; while finding a spot on the side streets can be a bit tricky in the summer, there are ample spaces along the beach. Located approximately 22 kilometers from Izmit, this location can be reached in 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Değirmendere Waterside Houses is not just a tourist destination; it's also a living space where you can experience the region's history and spirit. With its palm-lined beach, vibrant atmosphere both in summer and winter, and warm-hearted people, it has become a symbol of Değirmendere. Once here, you can sit in the tea gardens, admire the gulf view, and feel the traces of the past as you stroll among the waterside houses.
