"Kasymiye Madrasah or Kasym Pasha Madrasah is a large madrasah in Mardin, Turkey. The main building has a rectangular shape. The entrance is through an ornate portal from the south. There is a swimming pool in the courtyard. The source of the water is a funnel in the wall, which symbolizes birth. The water from the pool flows through a narrow gap, which symbolizes death and sirat (in the Islamic faith, a narrow bridge in hell leading to heaven). Classrooms surround the pool. The classroom doors are intentionally low to ensure that students will bow respectfully to their teachers when they enter."
