What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Meskendir Valley is praised for its underrated beauty and peaceful, off-the-beaten-path experience, offering a chance to explore ancient cave churches and unique rock formations without the crowds. Some visitors note the trails can be muddy and slippery, requiring good footwear, and that the valley itself is 'unremarkable' to some, though most find it magnificent and highly recommend it for its secluded charm.
"It took me about 1 hour to walk this valley from start to finish. Even though it hadn't rained for about a week, there is a creek that runs along the trail and it is muddy in some places. Several times I had to think my way around such places. So wear shoes that are comfortable and will not be sorry to get dirty in the mud.
The valley itself is unremarkable, there is a church at the southern entrance, which could not be added to Google Maps on my tip. Here are its approximate coordinates: 38.643139, 34.854157. Photo #4 was taken on the ascent to this church."

"An alluring, otherworldly traipse through an ever-narrowing canyon that affords new and fascinating stone formation sights around every corner. Unlike other nearby valleys, I had the trail virtually to myself. Would definitely recommend!
You can access the trailhead from Göreme by walking along the Müze Road east of town toward and past the Göreme open-air museum, at which point you leave the crowds well behind.
Be sure to bring good shoes as the trail can get slippery, both from the dust and also from residual rainwater."
