"Ancient city sunset 🌄🌇🤩
I love this little ancient city on top of this mountain. If you were not looking for it you would definitely drive right past it hahaha
I love the tower with the archway underneath that would have been the southern gate used to enter the city back in the day. Somehow 2,000 years later it still standing 🤯
Fortification walls and arched entryways really made this place quite beautiful but the sunset added immensely with all of the colors painted in the sky 🎨💜🧡💙💚💛💖😍
Almost completely untouched this place obviously does not get much traffic from tourist but on this day it got fully explored and I feel great about that situation ✊🤠🇹🇷"

"🏺Pednelissos, at the foot of Bodrumkaya Mountain, bears the most beautiful traces of its era. While getting there is a bit of a challenge, it's a wonderful walk through the beauty of history and nature intertwined. 🦋 When you arrive at the Pednelissos restaurant location, not the current location, follow the small sign in the picture, climb slightly uphill, and when you reach the fork, continue left. Immediately after turning, the city wall entrance will be on your right. Continue a little further and you'll reach the Sanctuary of Apollo. In spring, the dense thorny maquis can make walking difficult. Therefore, I recommend bringing appropriate equipment."

The History and Significance of Pednelissus
The site showcases remains of temples, baths, alabastron reliefs, and sacred areas. One of its most striking features is the remarkably preserved southern gate tower with its archway, a testament to the enduring quality of ancient construction. The city's strategic location likely played a role in its historical importance, offering commanding views of the surrounding landscape.
While not as extensively excavated or promoted as some other ancient sites in Turkey, Pednelissus offers a unique experience for those seeking a less crowded and more authentic encounter with history. Its 'almost completely untouched' state allows visitors to feel a deeper connection to the past, imagining life within its ancient walls.
Navigating the Terrain and Best Practices
For those looking for the most scenic approach, following the directions near the former restaurant location is key. A small sign will guide you uphill, and at a fork, taking the left path will lead you towards the city wall entrance. This path offers a more direct route to the main ruins, including the impressive southern gate.
Visitors are advised to plan their visit to coincide with daylight hours, especially if exploring the site. While the sunset is a popular and highly recommended time for its visual appeal, ensuring you have ample light to navigate the uneven ground safely is crucial. The site's remote nature means you'll likely have a peaceful and uncrowded experience, allowing for a more immersive exploration of its historical remnants.
