"The place is beautiful. But you need to be ready to climb and not scared of heights.I recommend came with your own car or motorcycle. Because there is no security and no payment and no tours for this place."

"Silyon Ancient City 🏰🗼⛰️
I like how you can just be riding around in the middle of nowhere here in Turkey and stumble across a random mountaintop castle 🤯
No signs. No guides. Not even a pin on Google Maps... Uuuuuntil now 💪😏🗺️📍
I don't know much about the history of this place sadly but I can tell you it's amazingly beautiful overlooking the Mediterranean Sea! If I was a hopeless romantic it would be the perfect place for a sunset picnic with my future ex-wife 👩❤️👨👎🍷🔥🥪🌅
I imagine back in the day this was one hell of a fortification. There's a beautiful lookout tower that is beginning to show its age. I imagine the almost endless amounts of earthquakes that come through this area have all taken their pound of flesh 🔪🥩 You can see a crack forming in the masonry on the east side of the watch tower. That must have been one brutal earthquake to move everything on top of this mountain that much 🤯 So brutal infact that you can even see the keystone in the doorway starting to let loose as gravity takes her never ending toll 🙈
The actual castle part of these ruins is still in pretty good shape relatively speaking 🤷♂️ You can see the arched doorways as well as the multiple floors that made up this place originally 🤩
Absolutely incredible how much energy and effort went into building these structures way back when... Meanwhile today they lie just behind a random farmer's field... I actually parked my bike next to his house and said hi.... A bit perplexed by why I was actually there "to see these old rocks" as he so eloquently put it via Google translate on my phone. Muhammad the ole Turkish farmer with these amazing ruins as his backyard quickly invited me into his house for tea. Turkish people really are some of the friendliest you'll ever meet ☕🇹🇷💜"

A Glimpse into Sillyon's Past
Exploring Sillyon is like stepping back in time. The well-preserved theater, capable of seating thousands, still echoes with the potential for ancient performances. Wandering through the agora, you can almost picture merchants hawking their wares. The imposing city walls and gates speak to its military importance. The site is divided into an upper and lower city, each with its own unique structures and historical significance, requiring a good amount of walking to fully appreciate.
Unlike some of the more heavily touristed ancient sites, Sillyon offers a more serene and authentic experience. Visitors often remark on the feeling of discovery and the lack of overwhelming crowds. This allows for a more personal connection with the history and the breathtaking natural surroundings. It’s a place where you can truly immerse yourself in the remnants of a bygone civilization.
Navigating Sillyon's Terrain
Comfortable and sturdy footwear is non-negotiable. You'll encounter uneven stone paths, gravel, and some inclines. Avoid open-toed sandals or high heels. Given the lack of extensive facilities, preparation is key. Bring ample water, especially during warmer months, as there are no vendors on-site. Taking your time and being mindful of your footing will ensure a safe and enjoyable exploration.
