What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tahtakale Hamam is a historically significant Ottoman bathhouse, admired for its architecture. However, it is no longer operational as a public hamam and has become private property, disappointing those hoping for a traditional bathing experience.
"Not in use as a hamam anymore"
Jash Rijvers
"Located in the Talatpaşa neighborhood of Edirne's city center, overlooking Sarackar Street, it is an example of Ottoman architecture. Built in 1434-1435 during the reign of Sultan Murad II as a double bathhouse to generate revenue for the Darülhadis complex, it is a prime example of Ottoman architecture. Unfortunately, as with our other works, we were unable to preserve it. It passed into private hands. According to reports in the tabloid press, it was up for sale for 9 million Turkish Lira. Unfortunately, we have demonstrated our lust for destruction here as well. Please, let's protect these works. Thank you."
