What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Beitou Hot Springs offers a genuine local experience with mineral-rich waters and a range of facilities from public pools to private resorts. Visitors appreciate the therapeutic benefits and the chance to immerse in Taiwanese culture. However, some find the rules strict and the public pools can get crowded, especially with seniors.
"Very cool experience. Google Maps didn't do a good job of leading us to the correct location, so I'm posting a picture of the entrance. Our bathing suits were immediately approved for entry as we followed rules set forth on the website. There is a locker area and then icy cold showers to wash before entering the pools, unless you pay for a heated shower (inexpensive). Obviously, it was mostly older locals there and they did seem to stare but they also seemed nice and after awhile got used to us. There are 3 warm pools and 2 cold pools. You have to secure longer hair and if you want to go in the cold pools, you must wear a bathing cap. We enjoyed our experience here and it was pretty relaxing."

"Make sure you bring appropriate swimming wear and your own towels. It seems like tight bathing suits are required. There's different windows during the day when you can go. It's not open continuously for the day but like in 3 hour chunks."

"Must remember to bring along swimwear & swim cap. Staff was friendly, carefully explained to me as we were there for the 1st time. They do sell swimwear on-site, but is better to bring yr own. Do remember to bring along towel & shampoo, they don’t provide.
U are not allow to go in 1/2hour before closing of each session. There’s 4 hot pool (diff temperature) & 1 cold pool.
Entry fees applied for each session.
Free facilities : toilet, cold shower, no-lock locker, shoe rack
Facilities w/ charges : hot shower, locker that can lock, hair dryer
Overall experience was great, majority of visitor are seniors citizen."

The Beitou Hot Spring Recreation Area features public pools where locals and tourists alike can soak in mineral-rich waters. These facilities often have distinct sections for hot and cold pools, catering to different preferences. For those seeking a more private and luxurious experience, numerous hot spring resorts dot the area, offering private rooms with individual soaking tubs, often with stunning views and Japanese-inspired decor.
The geothermal activity in Beitou is a result of its location along a fault line, allowing underground heat to warm the water.
