Rainbow Village is a charming, free attraction known for its vibrant, whimsical murals painted by Grandpa Rainbow. While many appreciate its unique art and historical significance, some find it to be a small, quick visit. It's best enjoyed as part of a larger Taichung itinerary, especially on weekdays to avoid crowds.
"A beautiful little village full of Taiwan’s history. You can really feel the vibe once you’re there. Whether you stay for 5 minutes or 30, it all depends on your mood and interest. Don’t forget to stop by the lady selling souvenirs at the entrance—her prices are very local and fair! It’s free to enter though. Easy to get here by bus from the city."

"Rainbow Village is a tiny spot with a big reputation. I went in with moderate expectations and I think that helped. The entire place is really just a small cluster of brightly painted houses, transformed by the cheerful hand of a former soldier known as Grandpa Rainbow. The colors are vibrant, and the folk-style drawings covering every inch of wall and ground make it feel playful and unique.
That said, it’s a very quick stop you can walk through it in about 10 minutes. It’s photogenic, no doubt, and has a sort of whimsical charm, especially if you catch it when it’s not crowded.
If you’re nearby or passing through, it’s a fun little detour. But if you’re coming from far just for this, it might feel underwhelming unless paired with other activities. It’s more about the spirit and story than the scale. Good for a few colorful photos and a gentle reminder of how a simple artistic gesture can put a place on the map."

There’s an aunty selling souvenirs outside the entrance of the rainbow village. Most of the stuff re actually very beautiful. And prices re reasonable. Can consider buying. 😇 take note that they re not open on Monday!"
