What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Little Theatre Dar es Salaam is praised for its well-maintained facilities and its role as a vibrant hub for diverse performances and community events, including markets and classes. While generally well-received, some visitors have noted issues with excessively loud sound systems and disruptive in-theatre food service.
"Sound was insanely loud. They need to tune it better so we get the surround sound effect.
Otherwise it was clean.
Need to stop providing food and beverage service in the theater as it really disturbs the rest of the guests. The theater isn't designed to provide such a la carte service."
Mariam Sutarwala
"Welcome to the ocean Church services every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am and 11:30am. No dressing code. Come as you are. Parents, do not worry, there is a kids class. You can leave your child under care and worship the Lord.
Also, there are dance classes held at the Little theatre and a spa. Notifications are just available in the entrance.
Artisan market also held here. You'll find different challenging artists just for you to be amazed by the talents in Tanzania.
Packing space available."
Annabel Itaeli
"Beautiful poetry and music sessions go on here. I enjoyed my time here. The vibe and people were great. Every Last Saturday of the month. This is definitely a place to visit."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
When planning your visit, consider booking tickets in advance as these family shows can be quite popular. Arriving a little early will also help with parking, ensuring a stress-free start to your family's experience. While the theatre itself is geared towards performance, it's worth noting that some reviews mention potential disruptions from in-theatre food service, so you might want to ensure your children have had a meal beforehand if that's a concern.

A Hub for Performing Arts and Community
Beyond ticketed performances, the theatre actively engages the community by hosting events like artisan markets, where local talent can showcase their crafts, and even dance classes and poetry sessions. This inclusive approach fosters a strong sense of local culture and provides platforms for emerging artists. The theatre's commitment to showcasing Tanzanian talent is evident in the variety of local productions and collaborations it supports.
While the venue is well-maintained and offers a welcoming atmosphere, some patrons have noted specific areas for improvement. For instance, sound quality has been mentioned as needing adjustment for a more immersive experience, and the practice of in-theatre food and beverage service has been flagged as potentially disruptive to the overall viewing experience. Despite these minor points, the Little Theatre remains a cherished cultural landmark in Dar es Salaam.
Navigating Events and Ticketing
For those driving, parking availability is a key consideration. While the venue does provide parking, it can become congested, particularly for evening or weekend shows. Arriving at least 30-45 minutes before the show starts is a good strategy to ensure you find a convenient spot without rushing. Alternatively, for a more relaxed arrival, consider using taxis or ride-sharing services, which are readily available in Dar es Salaam.
When it comes to ticket pricing, expect a range depending on the nature of the event. Family-oriented shows or children's programs might have different price points than professional theatre productions. Always verify the exact ticket costs and any available concessions for children or students when making your purchase.
