We had so much fun on our mini-trip to northern Zanzibar. Started at the fukuchani ruins, then, the cave, which was simply amazing, clear and cool water, plenty of fish, safe and beautiful. Lastly, we went for sunset at Nungwi Beach!! ☺️ #swimmingincaves #caves #zanzibar #nungwi #portuguesefort #tanzania #sunset #photography #fukuchani #capcut

Reviews Summary

Fukuchani Ruins & Cave offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty, with the crystal-clear cave pool being a major draw. Visitors appreciate the historical context of the ruins and the opportunity to interact with friendly locals. However, some note that the area can be littered, and swimming conditions are highly dependent on the tide.

"Not a lot here but worth a visit.

We were shown around the Portuguese fort remains by our guide and then walked down a short path and a few steps to the cave mouth. It's completely unlit so impossible to see how far it extends or guage how deep the water is.

We visited at low tide, you could see the tidal markings approximately 1.5m above the water level at the time.

The water is perfectly clear and in the opening you can see all the way to the bottom. It was possible to jump in from the steps but I'm not sure if that would be the case all the time.

I would definitely recommend wearing sea shoes as there are sharp edges, drops and slippery patches."

"Those negative reviews ⬇️ aren't recognisable.

The entrance is 10-20.00 TZ ( Fukuchani Cave, Ruins & village tour). The tour guides are very informative & friendly.

Unfortunately, due to high seawater, swimming isn't possible in the cave sometimes (therefore, it is important to ask the tour guide & negotiate the entrance fee beforehand).

The ruins are historically interesting. It was slavemarket in the beginning & later converted to a trading building. There is a school on the opposite site.

The village is nomadic & wonderfu area. Absolutely adorable children & locals. REMEMBER to bring candy for the children ( and there are many of them 😅). The Baobao tree is secret to the locals. You can taste mango & other fruits - if you're lucky😉

DO NOT take pictures without asking the individuals ( just because you paid fee entrance doesn't entitle you to take pictures of everything)."

"Good history and the tour guide was extremely intriguing.. the cave is so beautiful with small fishing 🎣 swimming. Blue water and carry your swimsuit and sunscreen. The water may be cold . But it's worth the swim. Don't forget to have fun"
