"The most popular excursion on zanzibar for a reason 🏝
On Kwale island you can buy good souvenirs for cheeper price. Lunch ia also very good maybe the best sea food you will eat"

"I've been visiting this sandbank for years and have seen it change significantly. It’s becoming increasingly crowded, and the best time to enjoy it is in the early morning—though you’re limited to just 20 minutes before the crowds arrive.
There are now full mobile bars and a lot of music, but unfortunately, the area is sometimes littered with trash at the end of the day. If measures aren't taken to address these issues, this beautiful spot could become overwhelmed."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Ensure your chosen tour operator is family-friendly and can accommodate younger travelers. Some tours might offer more relaxed snorkeling options or have life vests available for children. The novelty of a sandbank appearing and disappearing with the tide can also be a fascinating concept for children to grasp. Remember that the sun can be intense, so frequent breaks in the shade and reapplication of sunscreen are crucial for a comfortable family day out.
💰 Budget Travelers
Be aware that while the seafood lunch is usually included, drinks like cold beer can be an additional expense, often around 10k TSH. Negotiating prices, especially if you're part of a group or during off-peak times, might be possible. Consider if you need all the optional add-ons or if a more streamlined tour meets your needs. Booking in advance can sometimes secure better deals, but also be open to last-minute offers if you're flexible.
couples
The included seafood lunch offers a delightful culinary experience to share, often with stunning ocean views. Consider booking a private 'Safari Blue' tour if your budget allows, for an even more intimate and personalized experience. The 'Safari Blue' Experience
Beyond the sandbank, the 'Safari Blue' package is designed to immerse you in Zanzibar's marine wonders. Snorkeling is a major highlight, with opportunities to discover vibrant coral reefs teeming with diverse marine life. Many tours also include a visit to a natural lagoon, which can be a serene spot for a swim, depending on the tide. The culinary aspect is equally important, with a delicious seafood BBQ lunch served on Kwale Island, featuring fresh catches like lobster, prawns, and grilled fish.
While the 'Safari Blue' is a highly recommended experience, some travelers note that the sandbank can become crowded, especially during peak hours. To enhance your visit, consider asking your tour operator to adjust the itinerary order to experience the sandbank with fewer people. Despite potential crowds, the overall consensus is that the 'Safari Blue' offers a memorable day of sun, sea, and local flavors, making it a must-do for many visitors to Zanzibar.
Understanding the Tides and Crowds
This tidal influence, combined with the popularity of the 'Safari Blue' tours, means that the sandbank can get quite crowded, particularly during midday. Many tours converge on this spot, leading to a bustling atmosphere with multiple boats and groups of visitors. Travelers who prioritize a more tranquil experience often suggest arriving as early as possible in the morning to enjoy the sandbank before the main influx of tourists. Some visitors also recommend trying to arrange tours that visit the sandbank at a less common time, or in a different order than the typical itinerary, to potentially find a quieter moment.
While the crowds can be a drawback for some, many visitors still find the experience enjoyable, noting that everyone is generally having fun. The presence of mobile bars and music adds to the lively atmosphere. However, it's also worth noting that the sandbank can sometimes suffer from litter at the end of the day, a concern for those who value pristine natural environments. Being mindful of this and choosing responsible tour operators can help mitigate these issues.
