Divers consistently describe the experience as magical and unforgettable, highlighting the incredible biodiversity and underwater beauty. However, some visitors note that the site can become crowded with multiple boats and divers, potentially impacting the overall tranquility of the experience.
"One of the best dive sites I’ve ever been to! Richelieu Rock offers breathtaking marine life, vibrant corals, and amazing visibility. From big Manta rays to tiny seahorses, every dive feels magical and unforgettable."

"On of the top 10 dive sites in the world an abundance of marine life & corals While the story is popular among divers, it is unlikely that Jacques Cousteau discovered Richelieu Rock. The site was already known and appeared on official Thai naval charts from the early 1900s, predating Cousteau's visit in the late 1980s.
The more likely origin of the name is that the rock was named after Andreas du Plessis de Richelieu, a Danish naval officer who became the first and only foreign-born commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy and conducted hydrographic surveys of the Andaman Sea.
However, the legend persists that Cousteau "discovered" the rock as a prime recreational dive site with the help of local fishermen, and named it after the deep red and purple soft corals that reminded him of Cardinal Richelieu's robes. Though he highly rated the site, it is now generally accepted that he was not its original discoverer."
