"A wonderful dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River! Great food, great atmosphere, and great service.
Pros:
- High end service and location without being snooty!
- A small number of guests and a fixed menu. No shoving to get at the buffet!
- The converted rice barge was charming, and the space was well used so everyone had a good view and no one was crowded by another table. The dining area is covered, and glass walls moveable. If rain is in the forecast, you're still going to have a great view and great service.
- The food was excellent. Several courses well plated and flavorful. I liked it all! (My Thai wife allowed it was "good", but she doesn't like anyone's cooking except hers :-) ). The dishes we had were a mix of Thai and Western flavors.
- The service was superior: Vegus, Veem, Berry, and Pocky were attentive but not intrusive, warm and sincere, helpful, multi-lingual, and always available. My wife wanted to skip one course because what was on offer wasn't to her liking. On their own initiative, the staff and kitchen substituted chicken, and she was surprised and happy. No extra charge. I'd welcome a cruise with this staff again!
- I appreciated the canapes and welcome drink while we waited to board. The boarding location, as part of the Anantara resort, was beautiful.
- No entertainers who later offer a photo with them for 100 baht! (A feature of the larger competitive dinner cruises I've been on.)
- They will gladly accommodate dietary or other requests. Of course, it's better if requests are submitted early.
Cons:
- Price is net about 2x the larger buffet cruise. If money is your primary concern, take the cattle-car-like cruise (their food is passable, and you can get that photo with the entertainer). Note that the other dinner cruises list their prices as about 1/3 of this cruise, but the larger cruises tack on many other charges once on board, so the net is about half.
- I would have preferred a bit longer cruise. It was 2 hours, but 2.5 or 3.0 hours would have been nice.
- Napkins with the welcome canapes! We asked and got them, but it would have been nice to have them before having to ask.
