What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Tham Pha Tup Forest Park for its raw, untamed natural beauty, offering beautiful caves and a rewarding viewpoint hike. However, many note that trail maintenance can be poor, with overgrown paths and fallen trees, requiring preparedness and a sense of adventure. The lack of clear signage and the presence of insects are also common points of caution.
"Construction was in progress when I visited.
There are two main routes: one leads to a cave, and the other to a viewpoint.
For the cave exploration, you’ll need a flashlight. The path is rocky, with sharp steps, and there’s no guide—so you have to plan and navigate on your own. I went alone, and along the way, I came across many large fallen trees. The deeper I went, the less helpful the navigation signs became, and eventually, the trail was unclear and hard to follow. It might have been maintenance season during my visit.
For the viewpoint trek, the route starts the same, but again, as you go deeper, the path becomes overgrown with tall grass and trees. There’s no clear trail, and insects—especially mosquitoes—are everywhere. Bug repellent is highly recommended, and it’s best to wear long pants and sleeves to protect yourself.
If you enjoy raw, untamed nature, it’s still a worthwhile experience. Just be prepared.
There is an entrance fee to access the area."

"It’s safe, beginner-intermediate level and a great day hike if you visit all the caves and the viewpoint (access to the viewpoint is different so ask staff in advance). There has been a lot of rain in the area during the rain season, stay aware of your surroundings and don’t hike alone here. The signs ask that you exit by 4pm and contact the park staff when you leave. A great experience and I was happy to get the exercise."
