What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Phuket Smart Bus offers a highly affordable way to travel the island, connecting the airport to popular southern beaches. While praised for its low cost, Wi-Fi, and luggage space, some travelers report issues with punctuality and bus breakdowns, leading to missed flights. Patience and flexibility are key when using this service.
"Our experience with Phuket Smart Bus was nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. We were waiting for the 5:18 PM bus at Karon Circle, but it did not arrive until 5:45 PM. To make matters worse, the bus was completely full, and the driver didn’t even bother to stop and inform passengers or offer alternatives.
We were told another bus would arrive in 15 minutes, but it didn’t show up until around 6:20 PM, nearly an hour later. Adding to the chaos, the on-ground coordinator was more interested in smoking weed than managing the situation, leaving passengers feeling neglected and ignored.
When we finally got on a bus, it broke down in the Patong area, leaving all passengers stranded. This was the final straw. We had no choice but to arrange alternative transportation, managing to secure a Grab ride with two other passengers. Unfortunately, this delay caused the two other passengers to miss their flights, a completely unacceptable outcome for a service that advertises airport connectivity.
For a service claiming to connect to the airport, the least it can do is adhere to its schedule and maintain operational buses. This experience highlighted a lack of professionalism, reliability, and basic accountability. I would strongly advise others to reconsider using Phuket Smart Bus if they value punctuality and dependability."

"Great bus service along Phuket International airport and Rawai Beach for 100 Thai Baht and works like a hop on hop off bus system along the route with lots of stops. Timetables and stops at phuket smart bus website"

"Phuket Smart Bus is a great budget alternative from Phuket International & Domestic Airports to places around the island of Phuket. At only 100 baht per person, there’s plenty of seats & luggage racks too (no extra charge). The bus only stops for alighting passengers, my return trips into Patong took just over 60 minutes into Patong centre. Pay cash on board. A regular frequent timetable makes Phuket Smat Bus a very convenient alternative to other services on offer from the airport. From International Terminal: Walk to G floor. Turn left to exit 6. Keep walking by following the sign to domestic terminal exit 3. The bus will stop opposite café Amazon. ( Blue White Bus )
From Domestic Terminal: Walk to exit 3 and turn left. Keep walking straights pass café Amazon.
The bus will stop right your hand opposite café Amazon. ( Blue White Bus ) 🚌"

Navigating the Phuket Smart Bus System
Key stops include major tourist hubs like Patong Beach, Karon Beach, Kata Beach, and Surin Beach. The bus is easily identifiable by its blue and white livery. Travelers can board at designated bus stops, which are often located near major attractions or transport hubs. The service aims to provide a reliable link between the airport and the island's most sought-after destinations, making it a popular choice for those seeking to avoid expensive taxi fares.
Practicalities of the journey include a flat fare of 100 Thai Baht, payable in cash to the driver. The buses are equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports, enhancing the comfort of the ride. There's also ample space for luggage, making it suitable for travelers arriving or departing from the airport. While a schedule exists, it's often noted that buses may wait to fill up, so flexibility and using real-time tracking apps are recommended for a smoother experience.
Budget Travel Tips with the Smart Bus
Many travelers recommend using the bus for its hop-on, hop-off nature. This allows for spontaneous exploration of different beaches and areas without the need for multiple taxi rides. For instance, you could take the bus from the airport to Patong, spend the day there, and then catch another bus to Kata or Karon later. This flexibility, combined with the low cost, makes it an ideal way to see more of Phuket on a tighter budget.
It's important to manage expectations regarding punctuality. As noted by some users, schedules in Asia can be more fluid, and buses might wait for sufficient passengers to make the trip profitable. Therefore, if you have a tight connection or an early flight, it's wise to build in a buffer or consider alternative transport. However, for general island exploration and airport transfers, the Smart Bus remains an excellent value proposition.
