"I’ve visited Bangkok a few times, but I had never actually stopped at Wat Kanlayanamit Woramahawihan despite passing it many times during boat rides on the Chao Phraya River. This time, we decided to set aside the time and explore it properly and I’m really glad we did. The temple has a peaceful but active feel, and there’s quite a lot to take in across the grounds.
It was fairly crowded when we visited in the late afternoon, but it didn’t take away from the experience. One of the standout features is the towering seated Buddha inside the main hall it’s incredibly impressive up close. Near the entrance, you’re also greeted by striking and colorful yaksha (guardian warrior) statues, which give the temple a strong visual identity and make for great photos.
Wat Kanlayanamit is a royal temple dating back to the 1800s and holds a special place in Thai culture. It is known for blending Chinese and Thai architectural elements, and it’s home to one of the largest bronze Buddha images in Bangkok.
If you’re exploring along the river, this is definitely worth adding to your list. It may not be as famous as Wat Arun or Wat Pho, but it has its own charm and character that really leaves an impression."
